La fondazione di città in Sicilia nel V ed all’inizio del IV sec. a.C. (492-396 a.C.): tra passato e futuro
Résumé
Foundations and refoundations of cities already existed in Sicily during the Archaic period for reasons of territorial strategy and within the context of tensions and conflicts. These processes are more thoroughly documented on the island from the beginning of the 5th century to the middle of the 4th century BC, when political leaders, Greek or Sicilian, utilised foundations or refoundations to occupy territories and tactical positions, to transfer populations and to station mercenaries. By studying these foundations and refoundations, we discern characteristics that both created new realities compared to earlier Archaic colonies and anticipated those of the Hellenistic period.
