Sensory Processing Dysfunction in Youths with Chronic Anger and Aggression

Résumé

Sensory processing dysfunction (SPD) refers to disturbances of sensory information processing due to atypical threshold and/or predominance of maladaptive compensatory mechanisms. While such impairments are commonly reported in youths with autistic spectrum disorder, it could be observed among children and adolescents with many developmental and somatic conditions. The chapter goes on to discuss the relation between SPD and irritability-related behavior, in terms of measurement issues, etiological mechanisms, and possible therapeutic opportunity.
