Organizational, relational and individual antecedents to the socialization of people with disabilities: An exploratory study

ObjectiveThe objective is to test El Akremi et al. (2014)’s model of organizational socialization among workers with disabilities.Design and methodologyIn total, 23 workers with disabilities completed a questionnaire measuring organizational, relational and individual determinants of organizational socialization as well as three indicators of socialization: role clarity, task mastery and job satisfaction. 5 semi-structured interviews were also conducted.ResultsThe selected determinants of organizational socialization were significantly and positively correlated with the indicators assessed in employees with disabilities.ImplicationsThese determinants play a role in the socialization process of newcomers with disabilities and influence role clarity, task mastery and job satisfaction.Originality and contributionsThese results suggest that attention to the determinants of organizational socialization may be beneficial in fostering the integration and job retention of people with disabilities.
ObjectifL’objectif est de tester le modèle de la socialisation organisationnelle d’El Akremi et al. (2014) auprès de travailleurs en situation de handicap.Design et méthodologieAu total, 23 travailleurs en situation de handicap ont répondu à un questionnaire mesurant les déterminants organisationnels, relationnels et individuels de la socialisation organisationnelle ainsi que trois indicateurs de socialisation : clarté du rôle, maîtrise de la tâche et satisfaction professionnelle. Cinq entretiens semi-directifs ont été réalisés.RésultatsLes déterminants de la socialisation organisationnelle sont significativement et positivement reliés aux indicateurs de socialisation chez les employés en situation de handicap.ImplicationsCes déterminants jouent un rôle dans le processus de socialisation des nouveaux arrivants en situation de handicap et influencent la clarté du rôle, la maîtrise de la tâche et la satisfaction au travail.Originalité et contributionsCes résultats indiquent comment favoriser l’intégration et le maintien en emploi des personnes en situation de handicap en portant attention aux déterminants de la socialisation.
